Ercolano e Pompei
Sunday we went to Pompeii. - Many disasters have happened in the world, but few have brought as much joy to posterity. I think it's hard to see something more interesting. The houses are small and cramped, but all contain within elegant paintings. Significant port town, with the adjoining cemetery; the tomb of a priestess is shaped like a circular bench, with a spallera stone where an inscription in capital letters. Looking over the back you can see the sea and the setting sun. A wonderful place, worthy of peaceful thoughts. "Goethe (1749 - 1832), Journey to Italy, 1816."
